A felt-tip pen circles endlessly on a rotating turntable, filmed by a vertically mounted camera. This is connected to a monitor that reproduces the action. 'Circuit', 2010, paradigmatically demonstrates the reflective space of Luigi Archetti's work: the constant circling around questions about the imagery of sound on the one hand, the sound of visual media on the other, and the complex search to make this tangible and perceptible. Archetti's installations often work with stage situations and contain video and sound elements alongside drawing and painting. This creates dense and multi-layered spaces, complex referential systems. The space is understood as a body of experience and resonance in which different impulses - visual and tonal - encounter each other and result in constructive interference.
Archetti reacts performatively to the location with his electric guitar. The guitar is used as a sound supplier, the sound produced in each case relates directly to the location. The observation of these extremely reduced sequences, staged without a narrative plot, raises questions about the perception of the environment, its visual and acoustic potential and the messages, symbols and feelings it conveys. What sound is inherent to a specific location? How does the performative interaction create an experience of sound and place that activates the viewer?
Archetti is interested in the fringes of music, in what cannot be completely controlled. Background noises, sound surfaces and sound structures play an important role. With conceptual rigour, he creates something fundamental: the potential space in which interactions and interferences between the sonorous and visual worlds arise with the greatest possible openness. Each work follows a clear composition and immediately undermines it again. The works are a kind of transitional objects, in the sense that their levels of meaning are constantly transcending, subverting or expanding. This is exemplified by the large series of drawings 'Partitur (Carona, New-York, Maine USA)', 2016. A convolute of sheets spread out in front of a shrill yellow painted wall in the Baden exhibition space, which pretends to be the recording of polyphonic music via the title. A musical composition is visually asserted. Is this a visual realisation of music? Or does each sheet represent an acoustically tuned room?
